Course Overview

NSC are members of the Association of first aiders

The First Aid at Work (FAW) course is mandatory (The SIA recognises two courses, the FAW and the FPOS course) for those wanting to apply for a license from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) or anyone who is preparing to become the appointed First Aider at their place of work. It is not a TRAUMA MEDIC or EMERGENCY REMOTE MEDIC course, but the essentials required to be a H&SE NSC First Aider.

Course Content

This qualification is knowledge & skills based, and cover:

  • Introduction To First Aid
    Principles Of First Aid, First Aid At Work, The Human Body, Hygiene in First Aid, Road Traffic Accidents, Multiple Casualties, The Chain Of Survival and First Aid Kits.
  • Essential First Aid
    Basic Life Support Flow Chart, Emergency Action Plan, The Unconscious Casualty, Airway Management, Rescue Breathing and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Trauma
    Bleeding, Chest Injuries, Shock, Burns And Scalds, Electric Shock, Facial Injuries, Head Injuries, Spinal Injuries, Chest Injuries, Abdominal Injuries, Fractures, Soft Tissue Injuries and Sports Injuries.
  • Health and Safety, the laws and rules governing First Aid in the workplace.
